The Raw Food Diet
I started looking into the raw food diet when I found that I'd completely lost interest in animal foods. I no longer eat animal proteins and nor do I eat dairy products or eggs. I suppose I would be labelled a vegan. In April 2009, I completely embraced this way of eating. There is evidence [1] that cooking: - Destroys nutrients and enzymes
- Alters the structure and digestibility of food
- Decreases water-soluble and heat-sensitive nutrients (such as caroteinoids) in vegetables
- Destroys many amino acids
- Causes vitamin loss [2]
What I Eat- Raw vegetables (including
sprouts
) and salads
- As much fruit as I want. I usually eat one type of fruit at any one time.
- Fresh juices (vegetable and fruit)
- Superfoods (goji berries,
cacao
,
mesquite powder
,
maca
)
- Natural sweeteners such as (
agave nectar
and
yacon syrup
)
- High-protein foods like spirulina and hemp protein
- Nuts and seeds
- Oils (olive oil,
coconut oil
, hemp seed oil)
Since I was already eating most of these foods, I simply replaced animal proteins with spirulina, hemp protein, mesquite powder, sprouted nuts and seeds. For best results with the powders start with small amounts (half a teaspoon) and then slowly increase to the recommended amounts. I add the protein powders to smoothies. Benefits - Increased energy levels
- Improved skin appearance
- Improved digestion
- Weight Loss
- Elimination of cravings
