The Power of Visualization

Title: The Power of Visualization
Author: Lee Pulos, PhD
Type/Format: Audio Programme (6 CD set)
Publisher: Nightingale Conant

Who the book is for

There are many books that refer to the power of visualization but have you ever wondered just how you were supposed to visualize? Perhaps you don't find it easy to see things in your mind's eye and are more comfortable with your feelings. Perhaps you get frustrated because your pictures lack clarity and focus. Maybe your pictures are clear but you don't know how to incorporate your feelings and other senses. If so, this book is for you. It shows you, step-by-step, how to develop or improve your ability to create mental images.

Visualization has helped millions of people achieve goals. And it can be the most powerful tool for achievement you have ever used. Whether it is for decision making, problem solving, heightening creativity or controlling a specific behavior, The Power of Visualization can transform your life. Let Dr. Lee Pulos teach you that, truly, seeing is achieving.

About the Book

The Power of Visualization is a 6 CD audio book:

  • The first CD looks at the history of visualization, dicusses the use of imagery by ancient traditions, describes the different types of imagery and gives you several visualization techniques.
  • In CD 2, Dr Pulos teaches you a process for developing or improving your imaging abilities and tells you how to set up a daily routine to practise this technique. He also shows you how to identify and clear the limiting beliefs that sabotage your success in all or some areas of your life. He helps you to create a mental safe place, in which you program supporting beliefs and de-program limiting beliefs.
  • CD 3 is about goal setting and the use of imagery, mental movies and affirmations to achieve those goals within the required time limits. He shows you how to create a goal board (vision board) to map the road to your desired outcome. He then takes you, step-by-step, through setting short and long-term goals for each area of your life as well as through creating supporting affirmations. In this CD he gives you additional visualization techniques.
  • In CD 4, Dr Pulos further develops the concept of goal setting. He briefly explains visualization in terms of quantum physics and shows the effect of your thought patterns on your current and future reality. He also takes you through examples of imagery for enhancing self-esteem, for self-healing, for dealing with stress, for assisting efforts to stop smoking, for weight loss and for improving performance in sport.
  • In CD 5, Dr Pulos describes the various types of dreaming (including day dreaming, night dreaming, conscious dreaming) and then describes lucid dreaming. He takes you through an exercise that will help you to create clarity and vividness in your images and dreams.
  • CD 6 consists of 3 exercises to help you meet your inner guide, develop your intuition and to assist you with relaxation and imagery.
  • The CD set is accompanied by an action guide which you can print. It contains summaries of all his techniques.

Dr Pulos's expertise, experience and knowledge is apparent throughout the book, which has numerous references to the literature and to research studies. His teachings are supported by frequent examples and I found the exercises in relaxation and imagery particularly useful. He gives you many imaging techniques and, at first, I was a little overwhelmed. However, with time, I soon discovered the techniques that worked best for me.

My favourite topics are those on image streaming, to develop my imaging abilities, and those on goal setting. He not only stresses the importance of using all your senses in your imagery but takes you through relaxation exercises that gradually awaken those senses and give clarity to your dreams.

The book is a wealth of information including the way visualization and dreaming were used in ancient times.

The printable action guide is very useful in that the techniques are readily accessible, but I did find its organisation a little unstructured.

This is one of the most helpful books that I have come across in my quest for self-improvement. I enjoy listening to it and go back to it over and over again. I recommend it to anyone keen on learning about and using the power of visualization and, in particular, to those who want to develop the ability to visualize.
