Lemons have so many benefits that they are worth incorporating into any diet. Limes have similar benefits. 

  • They initially increase acid levels because of their citric acid content.
  • Their metabolism results in a net alkaline residue, or ash [4].
  • They have an alkalising effect helping to reduce excess acid caused by consumption of animal products
  • They are a source of vitamin C, which has antioxidant properties.

Their citric acid is involved in the oxidation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates with the release of energy.

I find it very difficult to eat sour fruit. In fact I have never been keen on anything sour. I find it easier to squeeze the whole fruit or half the fruit into a glass and then topping it up with warm water. Drinking a glass every morning aids the digestive system and ensures smooth bowel function.
