About the Book

It is primarily a recipe book but it:

  • Briefly discusses what an acidic diet does to the body and to your health.
  • Discusses acidifying foods that you should avoid.
  • Lists the alkalising foods stressing that raw foods are more alkalising than cooked foods.
  • Points out that if 70-80% of your food is alkaline you will enjoy good health.
  • Discusses how to phase yourself into this diet and how to phase out meat, dairy, dessert and yeast bread.
  • Lists essential equipment.
  • Lists the spices, grains and food that you should stock in your kitchen.
  • Recommends foods that you should always have prepared ready for snacking.

The alkaline recipes include:

  • Vegetable juices and green drinks
  • Warm and cold soups
  • Salads, dressings, sauces, dips and fillings
  • Nut milks
  • What you can eat for breakfast
  • Recipes that are 90-100% alkalising (useful for cleansing and balancing)
  • Recipes that you can use to form the 20-30% of your diet that is not alkaline.
  • Yeast-free breads, tortillas, crackers and snacks

What I liked about the book

I liked the suggestions for breakfast beacuse I had great difficulty finding suitable things to eat for breakfast. The section on salad dressings is very useful because dressings can make your salads more palatable. It's great knowing how to make non-yeast bread and tortillas.

What I did not like

My only problem with this book was the lack of references. Where there are references, they are often incomplete. I like to look up references to get additional knowledge.

Some recipes use spice or herb mixes that are not readily available in other parts of the world. However, you can experiment with your own mixes.
